Our Curriulum
Our curriculum focuses on four prime areas. They are: Social emotional development, Language and literacy development, mathematics and reasoning development, and creative development.
Social emotional development
The component is about identifying feelings, building and maintaining relationships, self-regulating emotions, and developing soft skills.
Many researches suggest that emotional progress and cognitive growth are directly related. Children who have healthy social and emotional development perform better in their academics. Integrating the component in every lesson is an integral part of what we do at Shikhar School.
Language and literacy development
The skill refers t o a child’s ability to communicate and connect with others through the use of language. It can be done by listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Our curriculum has been prepared in a way that it hits all the four components. Developed language skill allows children to put their thoughts into words. It helps them build and nurture healthy relationships. It also expands their realm of learning.
Mathematics and reasoning development
The skill includes a child’s ability to count, compare, make sense of numbers, learn measurement, and see patterns.
Children’s early mathematical experiences play a significant role in the development of their understanding of mathematics, and serve as a foundation for their cognitive development. Early experience in mathematics and its strong foundation ensure permanent positive outcomes. Shikhar School with its strategically designed lesson plans aims to make students comfortable with the subject early on.
Creative development
The development points toward expressing inner thoughts and imagination using a form of art such as music, dramatic play, painting, and dancing.
Children who score higher on tests of imagination and creativity develop stronger problem-solving strategies. Our curriculum is art-infused so that students learn to transform their vivid imagination into stark reality that others can observe. It provides a platform for them to nurture their creativity and express themselves with their chosen art in ways only they can.
Academic Learning Parameters
Academic learning parameter encompasses a variety of areas. We often confuse academic learning with book based learning and assessment in examination. We as educators and partners in learning have to define a learning parameter that is much broader than the examination module of learning.
Academic learning covers learning about society, behavior skills, life skills and understanding of academic content. We have tried to blend these aspects in our learning programs and developed a “CONTINUOUS FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT” that covers learning areas and will be reflected in our “Student Observation Report”.
